What Fire Extinguishers Should Be Used On A Petrol Station Forecourt?

With the abundance of flammable liquids and gases present around petrol station forecourts, making sure you have the correct fire safety precautions in place is critical.

In such an environment there are several classes of fire risks that may occur.  Therefore a suitable type of extinguisher should be selected to cover the type of fire risks present.

The most suitable type of extinguisher for petrol station forecourts is the ABC Powder Fire Extinguishers.

ABC Powder Fire Extinguishers For Petrol Stations

ABC Powder Fire Extinguishers are suitable for Class A, Class B, Class C and Electrical fire risks.  This means that they are capable of tackling flammable solid, flammable liquids, flammable gases and electrical type fires.  They’re available in a variety of sizes, which are typically, 1, 2, 4, 6 and 9Kg capacity sizes.  The larger the fire extinguisher, the higher the fire rating that the extinguisher provides.

For petrol stations, the extinguishers are normally mounted on a wheeled fire extinguisher stand next to the petrol pumps.  Below the extinguishers on the extinguisher stand, you would also normally find a fire bucket containing fire sand.  This can be used for covering any fuel spillages on the floor.
